COSBE Membership
Please read the COSBE By-Laws, Policies, Requirements
and Benefits before filling out the Application
 
A. Membership shall be available to all Southern Baptist Evangelists who:
 
1. Notify, in writing, the Secretary-Treasurer’s or designated officer of their desire to join this organization.
 
2. Complete the membership application form, designating their category of membership from the following:
a) Vocational Evangelist (VE):  Available on a full-time basis for focused ministry to various churches and other areas of evangelism activity missionary and otherwise. The evangelist is responsible to determine to what extent they can do other areas of ministry and still maintain their focus, agenda, and title of “Full Time Vocational Evangelist”
b) Bi-vocational Evangelist (BV):  A working interest and involvement in the “work of an Evangelist” while also doing other task both religious and secular and being paid for same and having responsibilities that would prohibit full-time effort toward the work of evangelism. The Bi-vocational member shall have no voting rights. Election as a COSBE officer is forfeited but a Presidential appointment in any other capacity is allowed. Membership fees shall be $25.00 less than the Vocational Evangelist rate.
c) Evangelist Emeritus (EE): A present or former member of COSBE that has served Southern Baptist faithfully for many years and wishes to have fellowship with COSBE and privileges when they reach the point of withdrawing from the role of an active vocational evangelists. Each application would be evaluated by the officers individually, but, several factors would be considered; (a) years of service as an evangelist, (b) age, (c) years of COSBE membership, and (d) references. The Evangelist Emeritus member shall have full voting rights but election as a COSBE officer is forfeited. A Presidential appointment in any other capacity is allowed. Annual membership fees are waived for anyone given the status of Evangelist Emeritus.
d) Honorary Member (HM): Because of their commitment and support of the work of the Evangelist and the COSBE organization, the COSBE officers shall confer on behalf of the membership the status of honorary member. No membership fees or voting privileges are associated with this membership.  
3. Pay the membership dues and maintain future annual dues.
 
4. Are approved by COSBE at the annual business meeting or by the Executive Committee.
 
 

DEFINITION

All itinerant evangelists engaged in a ministry that exists for the purpose of revival in the church and/or salvation of the lost shall be eligible for endorsement.  Endorsement certifies that an evangelist is a recognized representative of the: (SBC) Southern Baptist Convention, Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists (COSBE), and the North American Mission Board (NAMB).

  
 
REQUIREMENTS 
 
All evangelists seeking denominational endorsement through the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists (COSBE) and the North American Mission Board (NAMB) must complete the following steps. 
 
Steps that must be completed:
 
1.  Complete the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists Membership application form.
 
2.  Sign the “Affirmation of Accountability” based on the Lausanne Covenant for Itinerant Evangelists.
 
3.  Maintain an active membership in COSBE.
 
4.  Be a member in good standing of a cooperating Southern Baptist Church.
 
5.  Obtain your Pastor’s Endorsement Letter.
 
6.  Attach two letters of recommendation from other sources.
 
7.  Attend an E-School: a course of study offered by the Evangelization Group of the North American Mission Board offered at a retreat at the Southern Baptist Convention, and offered by the Billy Graham Proclamation Evangelism Network (PEN). These classes, offered annually and taught by qualified instructors will provide information about every phase of the evangelist’s ministry
 
8.  Be interviewed by a mentor who has been approved for denominational endorsement.
 
9.  Attach a brief, typewritten autobiography which includes your family background, salvation experience, call   and commitment to evangelism, and any other significant events marking your walk with the Lord.
 
10. Send 2 current photographs. 

 

MINISTRY REPORTS

Once endorsed: yearly reports to the NAMB Liaison for COSBE. This can be by newsletter, by phone, e-mail or any means available to share something of your ministry.  This information will be shared with the Evangelism Committee of the (NAMB) North American Mission Board of Trustees.  This will allow us to tell your story to our denominational constituency.  Although a report cannot tell the whole story, it will serve as a vehicle to validate the ministries of Southern Baptist Vocational Evangelists. Submitting these reports faithfully and promptly will be appreciated.
